At Luella, sustainable fashion is something that we feel strongly about. Now that we are in the new year, we want to tell you about how to keep Luella a sustainable fashion company and how we can support local where possible. Quality is at the heart of everything we do, so we ensure our clothes are wonderfully durable and made to last, using materials sourced with care. Of course, it’s a journey, so every day, we try to improve our sustainability and become as sustainable as possible.
We have a very long-lasting, trustworthy relationship with our manufacturers in Italy. Our production team works closely with all the manufacturing companies from the heart of Luella in our Cotswold studio. Every style is designed and thoroughly thought about with care and the idea of producing sustainable lines that are still luxurious to wear and feel.
A global organic textile manufacturer makes all the beautiful, coloured yarn in our products in Italy. We want to ensure our customers receive the best quality cashmere and other styles we offer. Hence, our trustworthy relationship allows us to be confident with our sourcing of garments.
So, whether you purchase a cashmere jumper or a soft cotton shirt, you can rest at ease knowing the composition is made using sustainable fabric.
One part of Luella’s journey to a more sustainable company is enhanced by the fact that our yarn is from a company that is an international standard which sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled input. The GRS is a complete product standard that dictates social and environmental best practices and chemical restrictions for fabrics, clothing, garments, accessories, and more.
This company ensures that we produce our garments sustainably and do not break any social or environmental restrictions. Their goal as an international company is to drive higher percentages of recycled content in products and reduce the harmful impact of production on people and the environment.
At Luella, we feel strongly that all the garments and accessories we sell should be sustainable, and the customers wearing them should feel that too.
Alongside having sustainable garments, the soft pink bags in which you receive your orders are made using recycled materials. This means you can recycle the bags, so please do if you can. The company that creates our bags ensure the blend is a mixture of durability and style. All whilst ensuring that the materials they use to create these products are responsibly sourced, fully recyclable, and manufactured in a way that causes the least possible damage to our environment.
Our sister brand, Sassy & Boo, has paper bags produced by the same company meaning they are also fully recyclable. So, there’s no need to worry whether you order online or pop into your local Sassy shop; the bag your garment will be put in can be recycled.
Around every four months, Luella has a ‘Sample Sale’ held very close to our head office in the Cotswolds. A sample sale is where customers can come and look at a range of perfect and imperfect clothing and accessories for up to 50% off. It allows customers to view the clothing and try them on before they buy.
This is a great day as it allows clothes that are imperfect to be bought rather than thrown away, and it’s a great day for all who attend. Accompanied by music and a lovely café next door, you can sip a warm coffee while shopping at your leisure.
Our next sample sale is on Friday, the 3rd of March 2023, so do pop down if you can and have a wonderful day shopping in the Cotswolds.
At our head office and warehouse – where your order will start, we try to recycle as much as possible—creating with the cardboard we have at the office, followed by plastic bottles and glass. All the garments we sell are sustainable, so carrying that through within our Luella team is very important. As we’re only a small team, we try our best within the recycling sector to ensure we do what we can.
However, if you choose to recycle, small impacts matter, so whatever you can do will benefit the environment further. Perhaps you decided to shop locally or have ditched plastic bags and swapped them for recyclable ones? Tag us on Instagram and Facebook @luellafashion, and let us know how you recycle.
